Welcome Back, Extinct Dire Wolf

Dire Wolf puppies

Happy Friday! Jenny and I (Noah) are one month away from Judah’s due date, and we couldn’t be more excited! We already feel so much love and support from our community. Also, we have two more spots for our client pickleball event at Parkfit this Thursday, so if you haven’t signed up already, email (kate@scfinancials.com). Let's dive into a two-minute look at the economy, an interesting story, and a financial planning secret.

Economy – What Happened this Wednesday?

It was an eventful week! The U.S. government sells Treasury bonds to fund the deficit, and strong demand is critical—global financial stability depends on it. Before a routine auction on Wednesday, signs of weak demand rattled investors. But the auction ended up starting smoothly, easing fears. Notably, Trump announced a 90-day tariff pause just 18 minutes after the auction began—possibly influenced by warnings from Bill Ackman (hedge fund manager) and Jamie Dimon (CEO of Chase) about risks to the bond market. The result? The stock market posted its biggest one-day gain since 2008. Going forward, all eyes are on future auctions and how tariffs impact market stability.

Interesting Story – Welcome Back, Extinct Dire Wolf

Biotech startup Colossal, valued at $10.2 billion, announced the creation of three dire wolves bred from DNA extracted from ancient fossils. The wolf pups, expected to weigh 140 pounds, were created using DNA extraction from fossils, gene editing, and surrogacy in a dog. This marks Colossal’s first successful project after failing to resurrect the Woolly Mammoth and Dodo bird. It’s a strong possibility the CEO has a Jurassic Park obsession.

Financial Planning Secret– Huge Savings

As financial advisors, we often see retirees take on home renovations—but a common and costly mistake is only getting one quote. It might feel inconvenient, but getting multiple bids can save thousands. One client recently got quotes for a new heater ranging from $8,000 to $4,500—for the same quality. That’s $3,500 saved just by shopping around. It pays to compare.
